Traveler’s Dream to Perform at University Place

University Place in West Lafayette, part of the Franciscan Communities, is hosting “Traveler’s Dream” on Monday, March 4 from 6:30 pm-7:30 pm.

Traveler’s Dream captivates listeners with songs from the Celtic lands and French Canada including hard-driving Irish jigs and reels, sea shanties, and traditional American songs. Michael Lewis and Denise Wilson captivate listeners with spirited songs from the Celtic lands and French Canada, hard-driving Irish jigs and reels, sea shanties, and traditional American songs. The band’s broad appeal owes much to the duo’s impressive skills as multi-instrumentalists and the beauty of their close vocal harmonies. They have been praised for the “exceptional way they blend artistry, skill and performance with a great openness and rapport with the audience.”

Play Your Part for a Health Heart

St Joseph Village of Chicago, a Franciscan Community, is hosting “Play Your Part for A Healthy Heart” on Wednesday, February 27, from 3pm-5:00pm to help the public discover simple ways to stay healthy while exploring our senior living community.

Each participant will receive a special “Heart Bingo Card” and the chance to win a Healthy Heart Pack. Join us for free blood pressure checks, exercise examples, and heart friendly diet tips.  All are welcome to stop by and have some fun!

Franciscan Village Presents Chef’s Fare: Oh So Good

Franciscan Village in Lemont, part of the Franciscan Communities, is hosting “Chef’s Fare: Oh So Good” on Tuesday, February 19, at 1:30 pm-1:00 pm.

Our nutrition experts and executive chef enjoy creating heart-healthy meals for residents in our community. Come and watch our informative culinary presentation, take home three new recipes, and discover how easy it is to prepare foods that are oh so good.

“Know the 10 Signs: Early Detection Matters” Hosted by The Village at Victory Lakes

The Village at Victory Lakes, a Franciscan Community, is hosting a “Know the 10 signs: Early Detection Matters” on Wednesday, January 30, at 2 p.m. on their campus, located at 1121 Arbor Circle in Lindenhurst.

The warning signs of Alzheimer’s disease are often dismissed as side effects of normal aging. If you or someone you know is experiencing memory loss or behavioral changes, it’s time to learn the facts. Early detection gives you a chance to begin drug therapy, enroll in clinical studies and plan for the future.

Attend this informative presentation, featuring guest speaker Brittany Mabry, Manager of Education and Outreach, Alzheimer’s Association-Illinois Chapter, to learn the 10 warning signs of Alzheimer’s disease. We’ll separate myth from reality and address commonly-held fears about Alzheimer’s in America. Hear from people who have the disease and find out how to recognize the signs in yourself and others.

Addolorata Villa Offers LLI Program – Pop-Up Art Cards for Valentine’s Day

The Addolorata Villa in Wheeling, part of the Franciscan Communities, will be hosting the Spring Into Knowledge 2019 LifeLong Learning Institute program, “Pop-Up Art Cards for Valentine’s Day,” presented in partnership with Harper College, on Thursday, January 31, from 11:00a.m. to noon. This is one of many enriching and entertaining educational opportunities available to Addolorata Villa residents and all local adults ages 55 and older.

You will learn how to create three-dimensional Valentine’s Day cards that come to life when opened! Pop-up cards can be simple or a meticulously handcrafted project that turns ordinary ideas into extraordinary cards. For this special time of year, you will learn how to create cards or gifts that will surprise and delight recipients. Warning: You may not want to give them away!

With no required educational background, homework, or grades, the Lifelong Learning Institute provides great discussions, new friendships, and the joy of learning among peers. To secure your spot in this free program, RSVP with Liz Starman at (847) 808-4421. Seating is limited.

Addolorata Villa Hosts “Norway: Ferry Through the Fjords”

The Addolorata Villa in Wheeling, part of the Franciscan Communities, will be hosting the Spring Into Knowledge 2019 LifeLong Learning Institute program, “Norway: Ferry through the Fjords,” presented in partnership with Harper College, on Tuesday, February 12, from 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. This is one of many enriching and entertaining educational opportunities available to Addolorata Villa residents and all local adults ages 55 and older.

Visit the land of Vikings and trolls, where moody mountains provide a backdrop for storybook villages along deep blue fjords. Sightsee Oslo, Bergen, and the popular Norway-in-a-Nutshell mountains and fjords in between. Tale the Hurtigruten Coastal Ferry north from Bergen to well above the Arctic Circle, turning south at Kirkenes on the Russian border, and travel back to medieval Trondheim. Lonely Planet, a large travel guide book publisher has called this, “The most beautiful cruise in the world.”
